Looking for a delightful, tropical twist on traditional eggnog? Try this homemade eggnog made with eggfruit! It’s egg-free, gluten-free, and can also be prepared dairy-free, if you prefer!
First, let’s talk a bit about eggfruit, which is also known as canistel and yellow sapote.
What is eggfruit (canistel)?
Check out this amazing tropical fruit:
This fruit, though not very sweet when ripe, works beautifully in so many meals. It is one of my favorite fruits we grow here at Cold River Homestead because it is so versatile! I add it into so many dishes, from cookies to burgers to soups to Asian dumplings!
Although canistel is not typically grown in the United States, it does grow in southern Florida, and believe it or not, fresh canistel can be purchased through Amazon and other venders online!
We grow it by the bunches, and December/January is peak canistel season here (just in time for the holidays), so it is the perfect time to break out the canistel eggnog!
Canistel freezes super well also if you remove the peel and seeds, so you can enjoy your homemade eggnog year-round!
This egg-free version is a big hit in our household! You can also make it dairy-free if you prefer! Just be sure to use an unsweetened (or minimally sweetened) alternative milk or adjust the sweetness to your liking.
I love to add a dash of cayenne pepper in this eggnog, as the little punch of heat brings out even more of the cinnamon spice flavor!
Also, if you would like to make it as an “adult beverage,” feel free to add your favorite liquor.
This version comes together super fast, and since it is egg-free, it can be made using only your blender! No cooking required!
Now, let’s get our noggin on!!
