Craving a MEGA pile of crispy yuca fries, topped with chili and cheese? Yeah, me too, so I had to make some! You should make some too!
These would also make for a delicious twist on the potato version for your Super Bowl party! Just set out a big pile of yuca fries and make a “toppings bar,” so that everyone can make it their own way!
Get your yuca ready!
First, let’s do a quick refresher for working with yuca!
Check my yuca prep post here, where I walk you through working with fresh yuca (not yucca), including the peeling, boiling, and cleaning for near limitless uses! I also tell you where you can buy it if it is not available fresh where you live.

Let’s fry them up!
Now, you have your yuca boiled and cooled or chilled, right? Let’s slice them into French fry sticks, around 1/2 inch thick. These don’t have to be perfectly shaped though!
Well, these look a little bare, don’t they?
First, coat them in a little oil and give them a good stir to coat all the pieces. Next, add your seasonings and gently mix, so that each of the yuca sticks are nicely coated with flavor:
Cooking the yuca fries
Now, you have a few options for cooking. My preferred method is to air fry them, but you could deep fry, shallow fry in hot oil, or even bake them. My air fryer is 5.5 liters, and they cook well all piled in together, but if your air fryer is smaller, you may need to cook them in batches.
Now, to splurge and make them extra special, why not cover them with some tasty toppings?
We like to use homemade chili (get my recipe here), shredded cheese or cheese sauce, cilantro, green onions, and jalapeños. Want to learn how I make my nacho cheese sauce? Let me know in the comments!
