Ceviche anyone? If you aren’t familiar with it, ceviche (pronounced seh-vee-tchay), is a typical Latin American dish usually based on seafood, lime juice, cilantro, salt, and sometimes a few other tasty add-ins. It is super popular here in Costa Rica! People eat it by the pound (or kilo actually, since we use the metric system here ?). Although it is typically made with seafood, there are a few variations that are vegan… palm heart ceviche and green banana ceviche for starters!
Green banana?
I love green bananas! They are simply unripe bananas and can be used as starchy substitutions in a variety of dishes. It is truly amazing how potato-like and versatile they can be! Hash browns, French fries, boiled, mashed, roasted… so many options!
These are the same bananas that will ripen into the familiar, soft, yellow ones we all love, but in their unripe form, they are something else entirely!
Did I mention that bananas were one of my favorite fruits? ?
